What to Expect

Psychotherapy is a form of refuge from the world, a safe place where one’s needs are attended to, where one feels nourished and contained.

It is not a place where a person is judged, categorised or harangued.

Television and film have given us images of therapists who are clever and all knowing, and who might even bully their clients into admitting that they, in their wisdom, are right.   This is a distortion of the therapeutic process.

In psychotherapy, compassion and patience are fundamental.  A good therapist will not rush to form opinions and theories, but will carefully see what emerges in the therapeutic relationship.  They will gradually try to help the client come to their own understanding and insights.

Expect to be warmly welcomed, and to be encouraged in a spirit of exploration and care.
